Before the internet gets its panties in a bunch, it should know that JMS is leaving on his own terms. He knew what his story was leading to. He just felt that he couldn’t write the big event climax.
“There were no creative differences, no animosity, no rancor… just the question of how to handle being caught in the switches by my own shortcomings and ineptitude. I have to say here that Warren [Simons] and Dan [Buckley] were absolutely understanding and supportive and gentle with me – there are no horror stories here. are gentlemen and scholars and the kind of business-men you want to work with, because through it all they remain human beings, and that’s rare.”
Marvel and DC need to find some new marketing term besides event. These events have always existed. Events are simply storylines that drive the Marvel Universe forward, (What? Storytelling that moves a story forward? Heresy!) but with a bigger emphasis on advertising.
While I’ll miss JMS’s run on Thor, as it has been the only run on Thor I’ve ever cared about, I’d rather JMS not tarnish his run’s reputation by screwing it all up at the end. If he feels he’s gonna screw it up, then I take his word for it.
I just hope JMS brings some of his run’s plot threads to a decent close so that I can justify buying the hardback collections of JMS’s Thor.
